Session 1
Short description of the session:
In this session, students will know about the telecollaborative project ‘Are we all beautiful?” with its final output and will practise what to do when meeting their future partners. As they will synchronously hang out on the following day, there will be some preparation for learning how to introduce themselves during the mystery skype.
Materials Needed:
Task 1: Teachers ask if students think whether media makes us think we are beautiful or we receive many inputs that judge our self-appearance. They explain that beauty canons change according to culture so that there will know a group of same-aged students from a different place to exchange ideas and share the importance of praising yourself.
Purpose: to introduce the project, its purpose, calendar and final output
Allotted time: 10’
Grouping: whole-group
Verification: random follow-up questioning to recap what has been said.
Task 2: Students brainstorm what they want to tell about ourselves and learn how to give personal information such as their name, age, and family with the help of guiding questions.
Purpose: To introduce themselves to the L2.
Allotted time: 20’
Grouping: pair-work
Verification: Students are able to ask and answer questions to other classmates related to age, hometown and family.
Task 3: Using language support, students learn how to express what they look like, based on their personal traits with regard to body parts.
Purpose: to learn vocabulary on physical appearance
Allotted time: 20’
Grouping: pair-work
Verification: door question to each pair of students to check if they have acquired the new vocabulary and structures.
Closure:
Teachers ask drilling questions to check if students can answer using the provided support according to each task (introducing yourself & describing your appearance).
